Everyone loves a good story, but as we found out at our recent church camp out, stories are more than just entertainment. When we tell someone a story about our lives, we're really sharing with them a part of ourselves--communicating our values, morals and ideas about the world.
Family stories have a way of drawing us together. Just listen next time you are at the dinner table on Thanksgiving or Christmas. I bet you'll hear a story shared. Knowing the stories of our families makes us feel like we are part of the family. But sometimes our family stories contain things that are hurtful, sad or best forgotten. All of us have those kind of stories in our past, stories that we hope are never retold.
The good news is that God wants to adopt you into His family, and he has a whole new heritage that he wants to share with you. The Bible will tell you all about your new past and ancestors. But more importantly, it will tell you about your new future! Sure, there are some stories of hurt in the Bible too, but within each story you will see the redemptive power of our Lord and savior Jesus Christ.
