Fishnets were draped across the walls. Wooden parrots and fish decorated the mantle. Tables were scattered around the room with candles, shells, and brightly colored leis strewn across them. Steel drum music from the sound system kept toes tapping and heads bobbing. Veggie-burgers sizzled on the BBQ outside, while coconut macaroons and mango ice cream satisfied every sweet tooth.
And then there were the people.
It was cold and windy outside, but inside folks were warm, enjoying their island punch, pineapple burgers, and tropical ice cream. Dozens of people laughed and chatted while they enjoyed Milton church's January Island BBQ.
It wasn't just the food that drew people to the fellowship hall on a freezing Saturday night; there was also great entertainment. And everyone who came was a part of the fun.
Split into groups by tables, the BBQ attendees were given a bag of random items and ten minutes to invent their own island legend – using every single prop in their bag. Laughter and whispers filled the air as kids ages 7-80 brainstormed ideas and shared inspiration for a great imaginary legend.
In the end, half a dozen groups performed their legends, each one unique and absolutely hilarious. One group used puns and jokes to keep the crowd's attention. Another group added props of their own to add to the feel of their legend. Yet another group, made up entirely of kids under 10, acted out their own made-up legend while an adult narrated – and ad libbed – for them.
Events like this Island BBQ are part of what makes Milton Church such a great place to belong. People come together to enjoy fellowship with old friends – and new ones. And there are so many social events to choose from, that there is never a lack of ways to get involved. It's great to have options for Saturday-night entertainment for the entire family throughout the year.
